Our correspondent learnt that the fire broke out at about 3pm at a section of the market near the Hausa section of the market.
Although details of the incident is still sketchy, it was gathered that two buildings in the market had been razed by the raging inferno.
The fire was said to have started from a building in the market through a gas cylinder before spreading to other apartment.
Good believed to worth several millions of naira where destroyed by the inferno.
But it was successfully put out by men of the Warri Fire Service, who later arrived at the scene to combat the inferno.
The Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Michael Tidi, who rushed down to the scene of the incident lamented the amount of damage.
He also decried the attitude of some youths from Igbudu community who reportedly attacked officials of the Warri Fire Service for allegedly not responding to the distress calls immediately.
The Council boss said, “This is not the first time we are hearing of this kind of attack from the community people. It is not right and it is something that is condemnable.
“I have told them that we are going to get the leaders of the community to replace the windscreen as well as the side mirror.
“The fire service is not the cause of the fire outbreak and any time they are called upon, they are available to respond.”
