It was a tale grief at popular McIver Market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State as a fire outbreak on Tuesday razed chains of stalls and other commercial buildings belonging to traders.
Goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the incident.
It was gathered that the fire started at about 9am on Tuesday, when traders had resumed for the day’s business.
It was further learnt that it took the efforts of the State Fire Service for the flames to be put out several hours later.
Though the cause of the fire was yet-to-be identified, witnesses alleged that it emanated from a section of the market were illegally refined products are housed.
Our correspondent who was at the fire scene observed that several stalls and makeshift shops were burnt down.
Some witnesses blamed the inferno on the activities of illegal oil refiners.
Traders who were affected by the inferno lamented that all their lives’ savings were gone.
