Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has extended the dawn-to-dusk curfew in densely populated areas of Rivers State particularly the state capital, Port Harcourt to 24 hours
The governor imposed the curfew over the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state to curb the spread of the disease.
Rivers’ Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement.
He said the directive came after the governor’s monitoring of the order in the affected areas.
The affected areas are Obiri-Ikwerre Junction (Ozuoba, Rumualogu) to Choba in Obio Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) and from Education Bus Stop (Ikwerre Road) to Agip Junction of the Rivers capital city over failure by residents to comply with government directive closing markets across the state.
Nsirim on Monday told Rivers populace that, “The curfew imposed at Education Bus Stop to Agip Junction, Ikwerre Road and Obiri Ikwerre Junction to Ozuoba, Rumualogu and Choba is for 24 hours with effect from today, March 31,2020 till further notice.”
The Governor during the monitoring on affected areas made observations to accompanying Security Commanders and operational personnel on ground on areas for improvement at strengthening effectiveness of the order to check the spread of coronavirus.
