A major disaster was averted on the Ughelli axis of the East West Road when a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of petrol collided with a truck carrying Nigerian Breweries’ products, spilling its contents.

The accident which occurred early Friday morning sent fears among approaching commuters who hurriedly made U-turn to avert any disaster in the event of fuel explosion.

Eyewitness said the Nigerian Breweries truck was making a U-turn close to Afiesere Junction when the speeding tanker ram into the truck.

No loss of life was recorded on the incident as men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rushed to the scene, controlling traffic to prevent secondary incidents.

The FRSC spirited efforts, however, couldn’t prevent the secondary incident as yet another speeding truck crushed an Okada rider’s right foot on the gridlock building from the initial accident.
