The Director General Avwomakpa Support Group (ASG), Mr Tareri Avwomakpa, has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State over Wednesday’s Supreme Court judgement affirming the election victory of the governor.
Avwomakpa said the judgement has put to an end unnecessary legal distraction to the administration of Okowa who was declared winner of the March 9, 2019 governorship election in the state.
The Supreme Court in a judgement on Wednesday dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Great Ogboru, challenging the declaration of Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election.
But reacting to the ruling, Avwomakpa said the judgement only reaffirmed the wide support and votes given to Governor Okowa by Deltans during the last general election in the state.
“It is with a heart of joy that we received the Supreme Court’s verdict which upheld the 9th March, 2019 electoral victory of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa CON as Governor of Delta State for a second term.
“The judgement by the apex Court has put an end to all distractions associated with election cases over the Governor’s seat. It goes to affirm that God has ordained Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to complete his two terms in office. Nobody can attain a position at a particular time except he is given by God. The saying goes that “The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong… but time and chance happen to them all”(Eccl. 9:11).
“We celebrate this victory because it upheld the consent of the majority of Deltans, which is the basis of true democracy. Like other party faithful, our numerous contributions and active support towards the victory of Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa at the 9th March 2019 polls was not in futility”, he added.
While, urging the governor to build enduring legacies through development projects across the state, the group’s DG, however berated some PDP faithful over derogatory statements made against Chief Ogboru regarding the judgement.
According to him, “It is disheartening to read on social media some of the derogatory remarks from members of the PDP family against the person of Chief Great Ogboru. There is no permanent enemy in the game of politics. Your perceived enemy today could turn to a position to help you tomorrow.
“We, as supporters of His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa must take a clue from the his body language as well as his statement after the Thanksgiving Service at the Government House Chapel, inviting Chief Great Ogboru of the APC to collaborate with his administration to build a stronger and united Delta.
“We encourage the Governor to continue in his humaneness and magnanimity in spreading the dividends of his administration to all. In this way, the Governor can build an enduring legacy that will continue to endear him to all Deltans even after his administration like we have seen with Chief James Onanefe Ibori.”
