Kidnapped Delta Catholic Priest Regains Freedom

The Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Issele-Mkpitime in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Rev. Fr. Samuel Agwameseh, has regained freedom.

 Fr. Agwameseh, who was abducted on Saturday by arms wielding gunmen alleged to be herdsmen, was released by his captors on Monday evening.

The Director of Social Communication of Issele-Uku Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr. Charles Uganwa confirmed the release of Fr. Agwameseh to our correspondent on phone.

The cleric was kidnapped on Saturday by gunmen while returning from the neighbouring Onicha-Olona town where he had gone for the production of the church weekly bulletin meant for last Sunday’s masses.

The kidnappers who had earlier demanded for N20 million ransom for the catholic priest.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onowakpoyeya, did not pick calls when contacted for confirmation of the release of the priest.
