Okowa Appoints Ex-Delta Poly Rector, Egwuyenga As New DELSU VC

A former rector of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Prof. Andy Egwuyenga has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University, Abraka.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa approved the appointment in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Chiedu Ebie.

The new DELSU VC will assume duties on December 1, 2019 following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing VC, Prof Victor Peretomode.

NIGER DELTA TODAY learnt that the new DELSU VC came first in the interview/exam conducted for candidates who put in for the job.

Ebie in the statement on Friday said, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public especially Deltans that His Excellency, Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, has approved the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for the Delta State University, Abraka. He is Prof. Andy O. Egwuyenga.

“Prof Andy Egwuyenga would be assuming office on 1st of December, 2019, upon the expiration of the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victor F. Peretomode on 30th November, 2019.”

This medium understands that Egwuyenga, who made remarkable progress in the area of infrastructure and academics as rector of the state owned polytechnic in Ogwashi-Uku, was picked by the governor on merit following the recommendation of the school senate and governing board.

While Prof. Ewguyenga came first, Prof. Grace Ojie-Ogwu came second while Prof. Samuel Asagba came third.

Egwuyenga will be the first person from Delta North to emerged as VC of DELSU. The outgoing VC hails from Burutu in Delta South.
