How Auto Crash Involving Gov Obaseki’s Convoy Killed Seven, Injured Many In Edo

Tragedy on Saturday struck in Edo State when advance team of Governor Godwin Obaseki got involved in a ghastly motor accident along the Benin-Auchi Highway, killing no fewer than seven persons.

The accident occurred when the advance Protocol Team of the governor and a commercial vehicle rammed into each other leading to the death of the victims.

Several other persons were injured and hospitalised.

Among the deceased are two kids and five adults.

It was learnt that three of those who sustained various degree of injuries were rushed to the Central Hospital in Benin City where they are presently receiving medication.

The Governor Obaseki’s driver was among those who sustained fatal injury in the auto crash.

The accident which occurred in morning claimed the lives of five adults and two children.

The advance team was said to be travelling from Benin to Ekpoma for the convocation ceremony of Ambrose Ali University when a Toyota Hilux van of the Governor advanced team was said to had a head- on -collision with a commercial Audi car.

The State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, described it as “very unfortunate.”

Speaking to newsmen, an eyewitness account who said the accident occurred at Ehor, the headquarters of   Uhunmwode Local Government area added that a ‘good Samaritan’ rushed the survivors and the dead to the Central hospital in Benin.

It was, however, gathered that there were plans to evacuate the driver of the Hilux van to a private hospital for adequate medical care.

Meanwhile, a source at the Central Hospital, confirmed that the victims were receiving treatment at the hospital.

The source, however, declined to give detail on the state of health of the victims still alive.
