The people of Ute-Okpu Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to assist the people of the area with the construction of Owerre/Elugu Road.
They said the construction of the road which they described as one of the busiest road in Ika Nation is critical to the people of the area whose major occupation is farming and it will movement of agricultural produce to other parts of the state.
Speaking when Olotus (Traditions Youth Leaders) in Ute-Okpu Kingdom visited the Delta State chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at his Ute-Okpu country-home, said the construction of the road will help ameliorate the sufferings of the people.

The Head of the Olotus, Mr. Olivet Udumeh, while describing the road as very important to the people of Ika Nation, lamented that the had become a death trap for farmers and road users plying the road.
Udumeh further appealed for construction of a bridge at Iyiakpa River linking Ute-Okpu and Ebu-Ogba community in Aniocha South LGA to boost economic and communal activities both communities and other neighbouring communities in the area.
He also posited that a health centre which was originally built to have a resident doctor in the area was in dire need of government attention as the people of the community risk their lives daily to travel to distant Agbor to attend to their health needs.
They also called on the State Commissioner of Police to detail policemen to the police post built by the community as it currently lacks manpower that will adequately meet security challenges confronting the kingdom.
While saying that kingdom voted overwhelmingly for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which led to the re-election of Governor Okowa in the 2019 general elections, the Olotus assured of the kingdom’s support to the government of the day in building a stronger Delta.

They also commended Mr. Hilary Ibegbulem for his contribution to the development of Ute-Okpu Kingdom, urging him and other political appointees from the kingdom not relent on his oars but to continue to attract more dividends of democracy.
The youths similarly commended the Delta NUJ Chairman, and urged him present their request to the state governor.
In his remark, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ikeogwu described the appeal of the Ute Youth leaders as germane, as they did not resort to protest to press home their demand.
Ikeogwu promised to use relevant medium available to get their appeal across to the state governor, noting that Governor Okowa is widely referred as the road master and it will not take him much to address their road and other challenges in the kingdom.
