Delta chief, one other arrested for alleged killing of 18-year-old girl

The police in Delta State have arrested a prominent chief and the boyfriend of an 18-year-old Favour Ogheneyenrohwo who was allegedly killed and kept in a sack-bag in Abraka in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The chief, whose name was not disclosed, and the supposed boyfriend of the deceased were arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of the girl.

Favour’s killers had reportedly strangled her to death on Tuesday 18^th June, 2019 with her remains kept in a sack and dumped inside a refuse site in the community.

It was alleged that deceased must have been killed for ritual purpose since her pubic hairs allegedly shaved off by her killers.

There were also violent marks on remains indicating that she was strangled by her killers.

But the police in a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects.

Favour’s boyfriend, Henry Ikechukwu, had allegedly confessed to the crime.

Ikechukwu had told the police that the “unnamed” chief who hails from the community requested him to bring the deceased to him.

According to Onome, “ On the 18^th of June 2019, a sack bag containing a lifeless body of a teenage girl of about 18yrs old was found in a heap of dust bin in Abraka.

“On inspection of the corpse by the Police marks of violence were obvious on the deceased neck which implied she could have been killed by unknown person or persons.

Subsequently, in the course of Police investigation, the deceased male friend one Henry Ikechukwu, aged 32yrs old who was last seen with the deceased on 17^th of June, 2019 and had been on the run since the incident, was tracked down and arrested on 28^th of June, 2019.”

The statement, while adding that two suspects are in police custody, noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of ongoing investigation into the gruesome murder of the girl.

“On interrogation, he confessed to have invited the deceased for an outing on 17^th of June, 2019, from where he lured her and handed her over to a prominent chief in the same Abraka community, who gave him the assignment to get the deceased for him.

“The said chief has also been arrested and the two suspects are presently in Police custody pending investigation. They will soon appear in court immediately after the completion of the ongoing Police investigation.”
