Drama As Family Accuses Law Student Of Killing Wife After Pregnant Woman Dies During Self-delivery

A woman simply identified as Nkechi Samuel, has died while trying to deliver herself baby along Chinedu Ogah Avenue off St. Patrick’s Catholic Church ikpirikpiri, Abakaliki Ebonyi State.

Nkechi, a mother of two, delivers through caesarean section, but in her third she battled with labour pains in their room and after putting to bed, she gave up the ghost.

She resulted to the help of traditional birth attendant for the third baby rather than going to hospital

It was gathered that this happened around 11pm on Sunday.

Our correspondent learned that the deceased husband, Mr. Samuel, a student of the Nigerian Law School, did not inform neighbours or the police authorities when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The corpse of the woman was, however, discovered on Monday afternoon when a nurse who was a neighbor visited to check on the late pregnant woman but only to meet her lifeless body.

The decomposing corpse of the Mrs. Nkechi was later deposited immediately at the morgue while the newborn baby was moved into intensive care of a public hospital (name withheld) in the area

The death of the woman, however, led to a mild-drama at the husband compound as the deceased family went to mortuary and return the dead body to the husband insisting that he takes care of the dead woman having left her in the house to die while putting to bed.

The drama attracted police from ikpirikpiri division who came and rescue the man from being lynched by the angry in laws.

The corpse was returned to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki Mortuary while the suspect was taken to the police custody for further investigation.

Narrating the story a nurse who lives in the same compound with the family said, “I went out with my aunty on coming back I was called, immediately I rushed to their apartment with my aunty thinking that Nkechi just gave birth.

 “As get their I saw Ogoo carrying a new born baby already dressed, I saw Nkechi at the bull of  blood on the ground with her jugular vein straight, her husband was by the side while the so called Traditional Birth Attendant TBA was at her back with clothes stained with blood.

“I thought maybe I was been called that the woman just gave birth,I went down asked Ogo if the baby’s Cord has been tired,the so call TBA said yes, I now asked of the placenta I was told that it is safe so immediately I bent down to check her, I found out that her body was cold, I check for the pulse I couldn’t get it , I touched her neck  it was cold and I then raised alarm.

“The next thing the neighbours gathered, the whole of the third floor nobody heard a sound that showed that the woman was in labour.

“After that we now decided to take the body to the mortuary and as we carried her, blood was still gushing out from her body, all that I did to see if I could restored her back to life proved abortive”, the nurse said.
