The Delta State Police Command has arrested a fake ‘army major’ identified as Blessing Emelor in Ekpan area of Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
Emelor, who hails from Isoko, was arrested when he allegedly ordered some junior Air-Force personnel to shoot undisclosed victim during a scuffle in the area.
In a statement signed by the State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Chuks Orisewezie, said the suspect had been posing as an ‘army major’ for the past three years.
The statement said Emelor was apprehended by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ibok Asamanyi and police team attached to the Divisional Headquarters, Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area on 6th April, 2019.
“Luck ran against him on the fateful day, as he gave an order to unsuspecting junior Air-Force personnel to shoot, which almost led to loss of life of a passer-by and the incident was reported to the appropriate authority, which eventually led to the arrest of the purported Major.
“It was revealed, that the suspect has been making the overture for the past three (3) years, to endear him to unsuspecting members of the public and to enjoy ‘Espirit –de-corps’ from members of the Armed Forces and the Police”, Orisewezie said in the statement.
It noted that the suspect, who had confessed to the crime, has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba for further investigation, saying that he would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
The statement appealed to the members of the public to report anyone found impersonating either the military or the Nigeria Police to the appropriate authorities.
