The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Rivers State governoeship election.
The State Collation Officer, Prof Teddy Arias announced the results at the end of collation of results from the different LGAs in the state.
According to him, Wike polled 886264 votes to defeat the candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, who scored 173,859 votes.
Awara, who had the support of APC and the Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, came second in the election.
Prof Adias said the total number of registered voters for areas where elections were cancelled due to violence, including the two LGAs were not enough to stop Wike’s winning margin of 712,405 above Awara.
