Tension As Soldiers Invade Delta Community Town Hall, Protest Erupts In Olomu


 

 

 

Serious crisis is currently brewing at Okpare-Olomu town in Olomu Kingdom of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State following the forceful occupation of the community town hall by soldiers on Thursday morning.

 

It was gathered the soldiers stormed the community with three military pickup vans at about 7am on Thursday.

 

The operatives were alleged to have immediately made their way into the community town hall in search for some community leaders including the President General of the community, Mr. Okiemute Otoka.

 

The soldiers’ action has sparked protest from community women and youths across the various quarters and streets in Okpare-Olomu town.

 

When contacted, President-General of Okpare-Olomu Town, Mr. Otoka confirmed the development to our correspondent.

 

He alleged that the military personnel were deployed to truncate the annual conference of the community slated for today (Thursday) where the annual report of the community would be presented.

Otoka alleged that some community elders and leaders who illegally sold community lands without approval of the annual conference were behind the invasion of the community town hall by the military.

 

As of the time of filing this report, the heavily armed soldiers were still occupying the community town hall and barricaded the premises with their vehicles.
