Lagos Traditional Medicine Board Presents Certificate Of Approval To OANM

As parts of efforts to monitor the activities of traditional medicine practitioners, the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) has presented certificate of approval and registration as a Tertiary Facility to Optimal Academy of Natural Medicine (OANM), Lagos.

 

The Board, however, warned traditional medicine practitioners in the state to be cautious of their roles and limitations by referring patients when necessary.

 

The certificate was presented by the Registrar of the Board Mr. Babatunde Adele-Olanrogunsanmi, at the 5th graduation ceremony of the Academy, held in Lagos.

 

The Registrar who was represented by the Board’s Director of Research, Mr Hakeem Bello, urged the graduands to understand and recognise their limitations in line with the Board’s regulations.

 

Speaking earlier, the Provost of the Academy, Dr Peace Awuto, admonised the graduants to be good and worthy ambassadors of the institution.

 

On his part, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Academy, Dr Sam Zion Adegbemisoye, disclosed that the vision of the Academy is to become the foremost training center for alternative medicine in Africa.

The Executive Secretary of Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Dr (Mrs) Kafayat Lawal, harped on the importance of upholding the ethics of the profession and the importance of making referrals to other senior and more experienced colleagues or other health institutions, when deemed necessary.

 

Highlight of the graduation ceremony was the Naturopathic oath-taking and induction to officially admit the 25 graduants to the profession.

 

Prominent leaders in the profession, including Dr Adedamola Bank Kadejo, Dr Bayo Ajibaye, Dr Ojenike Sulaiman, Dr Adegoke Gold, and the Academy Registrar, Dr Omo Ola Johnson, were also present at the well-attended event.

 

The Academy which trains in Naturopathy, Acupuncture, Cupping Therapy, Herbal Medicine and Nutritional Medicine, is also approved as a training institution for alternative medicine practitioners by the Ogun State Alternate Medicine Broad as a tertiary training institution.
