The political crisis in Rivers State on Monday reached another level as thugs suspected to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) invaded and set ablaze several local government secretariats in the state.

Among the council secretariats burnt down by the irate political thugs include Eleme, Khana, Emohua, and Ikwerre LGAs.

Governor Fubara visited some of the councils set ablaze by the arsonists late Monday evening to inspect the level damage caused by the hoodlums.

The renewed battle followed the outcome of local government election won by the Action People’s Party (APP) and Action Alliance (AA) in the last Saturday local government election held in the 23 council areas.

The action of the thugs, according to sources, was to prevent the newly elected council chairmen and councillors from assuming offices following their swearing in by Governor Fubara on Sunday.
