I recently came across a post by the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, where he highlighted a significant development regarding the Warri Township Stadium.

In his words: “In pursuit of delivering quality infrastructure, today, at Government House, Asaba, I received a presentation on the Concept Design for the Rehabilitation of Warri Township Stadium by Infrastructure Engineer, Michael Jendret, and the General Manager, Christian Moessmar of Primetech/Julius Berger Nig. PLC.”

This is, without a doubt, a step in the right direction for Warri and the entire Delta State. The Warri Township Stadium, which was once a hub of sporting activities and a symbol of social good for the city and its surroundings, has unfortunately been neglected by successive governments.

Over time, the facility, which was meant to foster community engagement and serve as a center for sporting excellence, deteriorated to the point where it became a hotspot for crime and criminality due to its abandonment.

However, this renewed effort by the current administration to rehabilitate the stadium brings a sense of hope and promise. Once completed, I am confident that the rehabilitation of the Warri Township Stadium will not only restore its former glory but also serve as a catalyst for renewed social and economic vibrancy in Warri.

With this rejuvenation, Warri will once again become a destination for national football tournaments and athletic competitions, drawing athletes, spectators, and businesses from across the country.

The increased social and economic activities that will follow will undoubtedly breathe new life into the city, positioning it as a center for sports and community development, while also creating jobs and opportunities for the youth.

This project represents more than just the rehabilitation of a sports facility—it signifies the beginning of a new chapter for Warri, a once oil-rich city, now on the path to reclaiming its place on the national map.
