The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress who was disqualified from contesting the March 9 Governorship Election in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, pledged his support for the candidate of African Action Congress (AAC),  Biokpomabo Awara in the Saturday polls.

Cole’s endorsement of Awara is coming barely 24 hours after his political godfather and Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi urged APC members and the people of Rivers State to support the AAC governorshp candidate.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Cole/Giadom Campaign Organisation, Cole said he would spare nothing in ensuring that ACC’s Awara emerges next governor of the state.

The statement signed by spokesperson of the campaign organization  Ogbonna Nwuke, said, “We have considered all options before us and we are convinced that Awara is eminently qualified in every respect to govern Rivers.

“Rivers needs someone who is level headed, cultured and focused to serve as governor. We have found these qualities in Awara. Government House shouldn’t be allowed to turn into the abode of men who behave like touts.

“All candidates, including the gubernatorial candidate of APC, Cole were part of the decision to support Awara of the AAC. Rotimi Amaechi is Leader of the APC, but this was not his personal decision. The decision to back Awara was made by the entire leadership of the party after serious and far reaching deliberations.

“We are determined to kick Governor Wike out of Government House, and we shall spare nothing in our arsenal to ensure that he is defeated through the ballot box.”
