One feared dead as rival cult groups clash in Ughelli

At least one person has been reportedly feared killed during a clash between two rival cult groups in Ughelli, Delta State, WARRI TODAY can authoritatively reports.

The incident, sources told our correspondent, occurred on Sunday around the Second Amekpa area of Ughelli.

The deceased, whose name our reporter had not been able to ascertained at the time of filing this report, was learnt to have been shot on the head.

It was learnt that the fight was between Arrow Baga and the Aye cult groups.

It was not clear the cult group the deceased belonged. He was believed to be in his early 30s.

The incident was said to have resulted in a state of pandemonium in the area as residents scampered for safety as the suspected cultists engaged in exchange of gunfire.

Police operatives from Ughelli Police Area Command had evacuated the corpse of the deceased.

A source in the area who confirmed the incident said the parents of the deceased had accompanied the police team to the scene of the incident to evacuate the deceased remains.

A Police source, who do not wanted to be quoted because he is not authorised to speak with the press, confirmed the killing.

The source added that the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the Ughelli Central Hospital.

Our source added that the Ughelli Area Command had launched investigation into the matter.
