Updated:Gunmen kill Okowa’s aide, Ngozi Lawrence as Ekpan community boils

Credible information reaching WARRI TODAY indicates that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s  Special Assistant on Youth Development, Mr Lawrence Ngozi Akpomiemie, has been shot dead.

Sources told this medium that the governor’s aide who is fondly called Ngozi was shot dead on Friday around Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The development, WARRI TODAY learnt, has resulted in heavy shooting by suspected youths in Ekpan.

It was learnt that Ngozi was ambushed by his killers while returning from an outing with his girlfriend on Friday night.

It was not clear at the time of filing this report if the deceased’s girlfriend was also killed by the hoodlums.

Sources added that he was repeatedly shot on his chest and head. The hoodlums were said to have waited until their target gave up the ghost before leaving.

Multiple military sources confirmed the development to our correspondent on Saturday morning.

A police source in the area also confirmed the development.

The deceased was driving in a Toyota Camry with registration number: Delta: EFR 965 SN, when he was ambushed by the hoodlums.

Sources added that the attack was not unconnected with with the political supremacy between supporters of the two prominent political parties – All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – in Uvwie local government area.

No fewer than ten persons have been killed in the ongoing political crisis in the crisis-prone council.

The Chairman of Uvwie LGA, Hon. Ransom Onoyake, confirmed the development when contacted on Saturday by WARRI TODAY.

Onoyake stated that police authorities were already investigating the gruesome murder of the governor’s aide.

However, the State Police Command has confirmed the killing, saying that efforts were already on to apprehend the killers.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chucks Oresewezie, who confirmed the incident, said no suspect has been arrested since the killing.

He, however, added that normalcy has been restored to the area as security operatives have been deployed to the volatile zone.
