The 63 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Asaba has celebrated the 2022 West African Social Activities of the Nigerian Army, (WASA)
The event which was held on Saturday at the Brigade’s training camp, Ugbolu road, Asaba, had in attendance, the 63 Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. David Saraso.
In an address, the Garrison Commander, 63 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Asaba, Lt. Col. Raphael Adom welcomed everyone to the historic end of year celebrations of the army
He said WASA is a celebration of the age-long tradition of the Nigeria Army that dates back to the colonial era of the West African Frontier Force.
According to him, the event is organised by army units and formations to celebrate and reflect on the success recorded in the year ended.
“WASA as a tradition of the army provides a moment of relaxation, where soldiers relax and reflect on the experiences of the year and strategize for the task ahead of the coming year.
“The celebration is an end of year activity that strives to foster spirit of brotherhood and unity within the army,” Adom said.
The garrison commander thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the numerous support of the state government in the activities of the brigade in the state.
He said the brigade would continue to discharge its duties professionally within its area of operation and lauded the coperation of the people and government of Delta state.
Responding, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa thanked the army bridage in the state for their contributions to the security and peace in the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah, the governor described the army as a dependable ally in the progress of the state.
“Many people and especially visitors to our state have always wonder how come there is relative peace in Delta unlike some other states.
“But I can tell you that these are the men that makes it happened. The army here in Delta has been a dependable ally in our efforts to ensure sustainable peace in our state”, Okowa said.
He assured the brigade that the state government would continue to support and collaborate with the army to achieve set goals.
The governor expressed the appreciation of the state government to the army for what he called the many sacrifices of the army in defence of national unity.
Highlights of the event was a tug war between female NYSC members and female soldiers of the 63 Brigade, which was won by the female soldiers.
The Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. David Saraso also presented a souvenir to Goveenor Okowa in appreciation of the state government support for the brigade.
There was also cultural dance entertainment from the Ofu-Obi masquarde troupe from Asaba, the Yoruba cultural dancers and children dancers.
