The Deputy President of the Senate and Delta State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has said Deltans have no reason to be suffering considering the homogeneous resources accruing to the state.
Omo-Agege specifically stated that Deltans have been plagued into poverty and underdevelopment under the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
He spoke on Friday at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, GRA Effurun, during a thanksgiving mass ahead of Saturday’s flag-off of the Governorship Campaign of the All Progressives Congress at the Warri Township Stadium.
Omo-Agege, joined by his deputy governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi and other leaders of the party, assured the people of the state that his administration will hit the ground running from the moment he assumed office.
He charged the people of the state to reject the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which has failed to perform in the over seven years of the Okowa-led government.
The APC governorship candidate stated that his administration will focus on the empowerment of youths, women and reviving the infrastructural decay ravaging the three senatorial districts of Delta.
The Delta Central lawmaker explained that the thanksgiving mass was to seek God’s divine direction as well as prayers for his 2023 governorship campaign activities believing that “all powers come from God”.
According to him, “With God on our side, nothing is impossible. Delta has not been well served in the last seven years despite the homogeneous resources accruing to the state. There’s no reason why we should be suffering in the state.
“It’s not going to be a tea party but with God on our side we shall be victorious.
We are here today to seek for prayers and God’s divine guidance as we begin campaigns. We will guided by the virtues of God.”
Speaking on the choice of Rt. Hon. Osanebi, Omo-Agege noted that he picked the former Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly to bridge his generation and the youths of the state.
While describing Osanebi as a grassroot politician and one who commands huge respect among Delta youths, he added that his addition is a big plus to the APC family and campaign council.
He further noted that APC remains united towards liberation of Delta from the grip of the ruling PDP, stressing that Deltans deserve a better deal from 2023.
In his homily, Rev Fr. (Dr.) James Urien, charged politicians to imbibe the virtues of Jesus Christ by placing the interest of Deltans above self.
Fr. Urien appealed to politicians in the various political parties to engage in issue based campaign rather than hurtful words that will heat up the polity.
Very Rev. Fr. Mario Uzele later led scores of Catholic priests to pray for the success and victory of Senator Omo-Agege, his deputy, Osanebi and other candidates of the party in the forthcoming elections.
