Thousands of protesting youths on Tuesday shutdown socio-economic activities in Ughelli, Delta State, over alleged harassment by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The protest, which caused heavy gridlock at all major entering points into Ughelli urban town, was said to have commenced over alleged indiscriminate arrest of youths by men of the anti-graft agency at the weekend.
NIGER DELTA TODAY reports that the protesting youths alleged to be Yahoo boys condemned the action of the operatives while calling for the disbandment of financial police agency.
However, the protest generated into a bloodshed when some of the protesters were said to have challenged armed security operatives drafted to calm situation which resulted in the shooting of three persons.
It was gathered that of the victims had passed on while two others who sustained life-threatening gunshots wounds were receiving treatment in the city.
It was learnt that suspected officials of EFCC had stormed major cities in Delta including Ughelli, Effurun, Warri, Abraka and Sapele to arrest persons believed to be involved in financial crimes.
Recall that the famous #EndSARS protest which rocked major cities and states in the country started from #Ughelli.
