Tension As IPOB Members Attack Delta Community, Kill Dangote Driver

At least one person has been reportedly feared killed when armed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday attacked invaded Ugbolu, a community near Asaba, Delta State capital.

The incident resulted in palpable tension among residents of Ugbolu, Asaba and their environs.

Recall that the terrorist group had last week extended its sit-at-home order to Asaba and its environs, a situation to forced residents in the state capital out of fear to observe the directive last Monday.

It was gathered that the rampaging hoodlums attacked motorists including two trucks belonging to Dangote Group.

It was learnt that one of the Dangote truck drivers said to be conveying cement from Ogbila to Asaba was shot dead in the process.

It was further learnt that the gunmen also seized the popular Ugbolu/Illah-Uromi road leading to Asaba Mile 5 until they were later dislodged by a combined team of security agents including soldiers and policemen.

The incident which recorded heavy shooting along the axis forced motorists and other road users plying the highway to make a U-turn.

Our community sources disclosed that the gunmen stormed the area at about 7:30am shooting sporadically.

At the time of filing this report, it was gathered that normalcy has been restored to the area following the deployment of armed security agents.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Mr. Ari Mohammed Ali, confirmed the incident on Wednesday evening.

CP Ali, briefing journalists in Asaba, also identified slain victim as a driver of Dangote truck heading to Asaba, adding that the command has returned normalcy to the troubled spot.

“It was members of IPOB and ESN that committed the atrocity. Three vehicles and one tricycle that were damaged during the incident. The only victim was the Dangote driver that was shot dead.

“Our men are already after the hoodlums. We are warning them to confine themselves to South East. Delta State is not part of South East. We are ready to provide security for all Deltans”, the police commissioner stated.
