Military Commander Missing, 7 Soldiers, Policeman Killed In Fulani Herdsmen, Kutep’s Clash


Police in Taraba State have confirmed that an Army officer, Lt col Eminike is missing while six military personnel and a mobile police offier were killed during a bloody clash between Kutep and Fulani herdsmen at Tarti area in Takum Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokeperson in the state, DSP Usman Abdullahi, disclosed this to Daily Trust in Jalingo on Wednesday.

He said Eminike was the commander leading operation at the trouble area and he was declared missing during the operation.

Abdullahi alleged that Kutep and Fulani militia were responsible of the killings of the military personnel and the mobile police.

He said more soldiers and policemen were sent to the area to restore peace while search for the missing army officer is being intensified.

He said the number of people killed during the clash could not be immediately ascertained.

According to him, militia from both side have engaged one another in bloody clash over the weeks and the situation worsened on Tuesday, leading to deployment of more soldiers and police.

“The missing Army officer and six military personnel killed were from 93 battalion Takum,” Abdullahi added.

This is coming one month after three policemen were killed in Takum during a clash between Kutep and Jukun over Kutep annual cultural festival.
