Army Officer Shot Dead By Unknown Gunmen In Delta

Unknown gunmen have reportedly shot dead the Operations Officer of 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Effurun, Delta State.

The late officer simply identified as Lieutenant Musa was reportedly shot dead along the link road besides the popular Urhobo College Effurun in Enerhen area of Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Friday night.

It was gathered that the deceased was driving a private vehicle when the gunmen attacked him and shot him dead.

He was said to have died before help could come his way on that fateful night.

The incident has led to palpable tension in the twin cities of Effurun and Warri since on Saturday as security has been beefed up in and around both cities.

NIGER DELTA TODAY gathered that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the officer.

It was further learnt that the various security agencies in the state are collaborating to apprehend the fleeing hoodlums.

However, the Delta Police Command confirmed the killing of the officer on Tuesday to our correspondent.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, saying “some suspects have been arrested”.

Edafe could not, however, immediately disclosed the number of suspects that have been arrested as of the time of filing this report.

He assured that anyone that has hand in the murder of the deceased would be arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, late Army officer was said to have been buried according to Islamic rites.
