The promotion of Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, to a professor is illegal, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared.
ASUU said Pantami cannot be minister and at the same time a lecturer.
It, therefore, faulted the promotion of Minister, and threatened to sanction the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
Recall that FUTO management had last year awarded Pantami with a rank of professorship, a decision, critica stakeholders in the Nigerian educational sector have condemned.
President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, made the declaration on Monday after its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Osodeke said, “You cannot be a minister and a lecturer in a university. It is an encouragement of illegality.
“Pantami has to quit as a minister and be tried for doing double jobs within the same federal system. He is not qualified. Pantami should not be treated as a professor.
“We have resolved to sanction ASUU members involved in his promotion and the VC of FUTO.”
