The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has promised to spend N5 billion to furnish primary and secondary schools in Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta State.
Omo-Agege also promised to extend and expand the provision of solar street lights and transformer across towns and villages in the district.
This is even as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM King Monday Whiskey, Udurhie 1, has pleaded with the Deputy President of the Senate to provide job opportunities for youths in his kingdom.
The Deputy President of the Senate spoke at the weekend when he led APC chieftains on a courtesy visit to the palace of Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom in Jesse, Delta State.
Senator Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central at the Senate, told the monarch and Idjerhe Council of Chiefs that he was at the palace to congratulate the traditional ruler on his first-year coronation anniversary.
He stated that he has attracted several developmental projects to Idjerhe Kingdom including provision of transformers, street lights and renovation of schools.
“First of all, I am here because I am indebted to the Idjerhe people. I am here to congratulate our revered traditional ruler on his one year coronation anniversary and also to apologise for not making it to both his coronation and anniversary celebrations.
“I have provided more than one transformer to Idjerhe people and more are still going to come. We are also providing street light to Idjerhe towns and communities. If they have not been installed, they will soon be installed.
“Every community in Idjerhe, and indeed, in Delta Central must feel the impact of our representation in the senate. It’s my goal that every community will have solar street light installed. In the next 30 days, we are going to be seeing more street lights and more transformers that have ever been installed in the last five years.
“Your Majesty, I listened to you talk about computer laboratory. We have done some in Ewu in Ughelli South and Ovwian and Aladja in Udu LGAs. We provide same here. I’m giving you my commitment but you will need to help us by giving specific areas where you need transformers and schools that need renovation and provision of furniture.
“Let me also assure your Majesty that in the next 30 days, we will begin the provision of furniture to schools in Delta Central to the tune of N5 billion. I need to be told which school in Idjerhe Kingdom needs furniture”, Senator Omo-Agege said.
The Delta Central lawmaker commended the Idjerhe monarch for promoting peace and pushing for the development of his kingdom and Niger Delta region.
Earlier, Udurhie 1 in his remark thanked Senator Omo-Agege for the appointment of Idjerhe indigenes as his personal aides and for attracting development to Delta Central.
The Idjerhe monarch, however, informed the Deputy President of the Senate to facilitate federal job opportunities to unemployed youths in the kingdom.
The royal father during the visit prayed for the Senator Omo-Agege and assured him that the people of Idjerhe would continue to remember him in prayers to enable him succeed.
