Anxiety heightened on Thursday in Anambra state, following the killing of no fewer than four mobile police operatives by unknown gunmen who opened fire on men of Mobile 16 Police Force, located at Oraifite community, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The hoodlums reportedly made away with the dead officers’ weapons.
The incident which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday, has increased the anxiety among security personnel on election duty and residents of the state.
Our correspondent could not confirm the actual number of casualties in the attack failed.
A gorry picture sighted by our correspondent in Awka, the State capital, however indicated that no fewer than four operatives were gunned down in the attack.
A source close to the area who spoke on condition of annonymit, lsaid that both the dead and injured were taken to a nearby hospital in the area.
When contacted on phone, the Zone 13 Public Relations Officer, DSP Nkeiruka Nwude, who is in charge of election matter, refered our correspondent to the Force PRO, CP Frank Mba, who’s phone was switched off when contacted for confirmation on the attack.
