Tension In Delta Community As Vigilante Chairman Is Murdered

There is palpable tension currently brewing in Jeddo community of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State following the murder of the community vigilante chairman, Mr. Jude Akiru.

NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online gathered that the Akiru was reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen at about 2am on Friday.

The incident happened around Oil Junction of the densely populated Okpe community.

Our correspondent gathered that an unknown person called the deceased to the spot where he was murdered.

Akiru, according to our sources, was shot severally by the assailants.

It was reliably learnt that the incident led to a clash between community youths and Fulani/Hausa residents in the area.

Jeddo youths are accusing the Fulani/Hausa youths of alleged involvement in the murder of the vigilante chairman.

It was gathered that the aggrieved factions are armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

The incident has halted vehicular movement in and out of Jeddo and its environs since 6am up to the time of filing this report.

Security agencies including operatives of the Nigerian Airforce, police and Delta Hawk were seen trying to quell the raging tension.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
