Police Confirm Abduction Of 80-Year-Old Mother Of Bayelsa SSG


Armed men suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly kidnapped 80-year-old Madam Betinah Benson in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The victim is the mother of the Secretary to Bayelsa State Government (SSG), Rt. Hon. Konbowei Friday Benson.

Madam Benson was kidnapped by gunmen dressed in military uniform from her residence at the old legislative quarters in Yenagoa.

The incident occurred on Tuesday about 10:15pm sparking fears among residents of the Quarters.

Hon. Benson, a two-term Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, was appointed by Governor Douye Diri as SSG in 2020.

Confirming the abduction, the State Police Command said its operatives had launched a rescue operation for the victim.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Asinim Butswat, vowed that to arrest those behind the incident.

“The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the rescue of Madam Betinah Benson and arrest of the suspects.

“Madam Betinah Benson, 80 years, was kidnapped on 20th July 2021, at about 2300 hours at her residence at Old Legislative Quarters, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa”, he said.
