The Delta State Government has begun moves to provide assistance to victims, including families of those who lost their lives in a truck accident along NPA Expressway, Effurun in Uvwie council area of the state, last Thursday.
This was disclosed by officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who paid an unscheduled visit to the affected schools, Army Children Primary School and David Ejoor Primary School, both in Effurun.
This comes as the injured victims, Samuel Okeke, Olalekan Samuel and Nasiru Bello, battle to survive in various hospitals in the state.
The DSEMA team led by the director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Vincent Ohwofadjeke also visited the three hospitalised victims and the mother of two pupils, Mario and Akpevwe Uphuophu, who lost their lives in the accident.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Ohwofadjeke said that government is deeply concerned about the case, as well as the families and will avail them of the necessary support in due course.
“We met with the Head Mistress who gave us all the details of the incident. We came to get the full details of things, to see how those in the hospital are recuperating and how government can give assistance to the victims in order to help their situation.
“I see that they (hospitalised victims) are still in very critical condition because the three of them we visited, non is able to speak for now. But from indications we hear that they are responding to treatment.

“I know what the parents would need this time is comfort and assistance to help them meet the medical bills that will accrue for the various treatment. From what I have seen, I know it is going to consume a huge sum because some of them require neurosurgical attention and orthopaedic attention.
“I believe that by the time we report back, government will assist the parents to cushion the effect of the disaster on them. Government is there for the people when this kind of thing happens. The governor himself made a pronouncement for the truck driver be apprehended.
He further urged the parents of the deceased pupils “to continue to take heart over their loss”.
