Buhari Decorates Chief Of Army Staff With Rank Of Lieutenant General

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday decorated the Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, with the rank of a Lieutenant General.

Yahaya’s promotion and decoration followed his confirmation by the National Assembly as Army Chief of Staff.

He was until now a major-general and formally headed the anti-insurgency fight in the North-Eastern part of the country.

President Buhari decorated him with his new rant at a ceremony held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Yahaya succeeded former Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna.

The ceremony was attended by Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of the Air, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Maj General Sunday Adebayo, DG Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, witnessed the event at Aso Rock.

Until his appointment, the new army Chief served as the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, a counter-insurgency operation in the North-East.
