Mrs Uruemu Omeru Adejinmi, daughter of the current Ovie of Agbon Kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Mike Omeru, Ogurime-Rime Ukori I, has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District in Ireland.

She becomes the first black woman to be elected as mayor of Ireland.

The royal princess married to a Yoruba man until her new position was Fianna Fáil councillor.

Iris Examiner reports that Adejinmi will now currently function as leas cathaoirleach (mayor), a feat never been achieved by any black in the country.

“This is a historic day for Longford and I am delighted to share this moment with my family and friends,” she said.

“I look forward to working with my council colleagues, council exec and all stakeholders to continue the growth and development of our municipal area and county.”

  2. Congratulations for the first black woman to be appointed as mayor in Ireland. We are proud of you and wish you success in your appointment. You are another example of how Nigerians in Diaspora can achieve to greater height in what ever position they find themselves. We Nigerians should ask ourselves, why Nigerians in Diaspora are achievers but not in Nigeria. The office holders (not leaders) in Nigeria should be ashamed of loosing talents abroad. Finally, my special congratulations to the King of Agbon Kingdom and Urhobo people in general.
    Dr Joseph Akpocha Adiotomre, UK
