Buhari Appoints Gen. Farouk Yahaya As New Chief Of Army Staff

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed an acting Chief of Army Staff to succeed the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash last week Friday.

The new Chief of Army Staff is Major General Farouk Yahaya.

A statement by the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the appointment on Thursday in Abuja.

Yahaya was until his appointment the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and present Theatre Commander of the Counter Terrorism against Insurgency in the North-East.

He was appointed

“President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.

“Prior to his appointment Major-General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI,” the statement added.
