The Palace of Olu of Warri has clarified that no date has been fixed for the coronation of Prince Tsola Emike as the 21th Olu of Warri.

It said the earlier statement purportedly signed by Chief Samuel Amatotsero announcing August 14th as the coronation of the new Itsekiri monarch does not have approval of the Palace and the Coronation Central Working Committee.

Chief Amatotsero had in the statement said following the meeting of the Coronation CWC approved August 14th as the tentative date for the crowing of the 37-year-old king.

The statement also said June 11 was also approved for the commencement of final burial rites for the departed Ogiame Ikenwoli who died December 2020.

The Chief Amatotsero’s statement, “Following the CWC meeting today (Wednesday), it was announced that the 11th of June 2021 is the official date for the start of the burial of His Majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli and the 14th of August 2021 has been marked as a tentative date for the coronation ceremony of Omoba Prince Tsola Emiko.”

However, a statement on Thursday by the Chairman of Media & Publicity of the Coronation Central Working Committee (CWC), Prince Yemi Emiko, said the Palace has not released dates for the final funeral rites of Ogiame Ikenwoli and coronation of Prince Emiko.

A copy of the statement personally made available to NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online by Prince Emiko advised journalists to always clarify statements regarding the palace from his office before publishing.

“The attention of the Palace of the Olu of Warri, and the Coronation Central Working Committee, CWC, has been drawn to a purported statement, announcing dates for both the final burial rites of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, and the coronation of Omoba Tsola Emiko, as the 21st Olu of Warri.

“It is hereby stated that the purported dates are fake and do not carry the approval of the CWC, nor the Omoba himself.

“A firm date will be announced in due course, for both ceremonies, at a proper news conference to be addressed by chief Johnson Amatserunleghe, the Iyatsere of Warri, and acting chairman of the Olu’s Advisory Council, the king makers, and only body that has the authority so to do”, the statement read in part.
