Kidnapped AAU Professor Regains Freedom

Abducted former Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Prof. Osadolor Odia, has been released.

The professor was said to have been released on Saturday evening by the gunmen.

NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online reported that the respected academician was kidnapped on his way to his farm at Egoro, Ekpoma, on Thursday morning.

The gunmen subsequently demanded for N18 million ransom to free their victim.

But it was gathered ransom was allegedly paid by the family to the captors to secure his freedom.

The wife of the Professor, Dr Amraibure, confirmed to newsmen on Sunday that her husband has returned home.

She said her husband has been treated for injuries he sustained during his ordeal in the hands of the hoodlums.

“I am happy to confirm to you that my husband has been released by the kidnappers”, she said.

She did not however confirm if ransom was paid to before the husband was released on Saturday.

On the ransom she said, “I can’t tell you that. All I can say is that he is hale and hearty.”
