The Delta State government has directed the the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) to immediately cancel the recent transfer of 4,500 secondary school teachers across the state.
According to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said the cancellation of the mass transfer is with immediate effect.
Ukah, in a statement on Sunday, also reiterated that schools in the state would resume on Monday January 18 for the second term academic session.
The commissioner said the cancellation of the transfer was due to the increasing COVID-19 infections.
He said the transfer could further affect the already adjusted academic calendar as affected teachers would need more time settling down in their new posting thereby leading to further loss of academic hours.
Ukah, according to the statement, had directed the PPEB to cancel the posting immediately and called on the affected teachers to remain in their duty posts as students return back to school for second term academic activities on Monday.
The statement assured that the state government is working round the clock to put necessary measures in place to curtail the spread of the disease in the state, especially among pupils, students and teachers.
