Bishop Okonkwo Urges Nigerians To Embrace Insurance, Charges Brokers On Enlightenment

The Presiding Bishop of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) Bishop Mike Okonkwo, has charged members of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) to embark on more enlightenment campaigns towards educating Nigerians on the importance of insurance to their lives and businesses.

Bishop Okonkwo, who spoke at the investiture ceremony of Mr. Rotimi Olukorede as the 10th Chairman of the NCRIB, Lagos Area Committee, lamented that many Nigerians do not understand the benefits of insurance.

He observed that many losses could have been mitigated if the public knew more about insurance and how their businesses could be  properly insured by approved insurance brokers.

Bishop Okonkwo, who was the Father of the Day at the investiture ceremony, further appealed to insurance brokers to engage in more advocacy programmes so as to correct the development.

According to the cleric, “insurance brokers cannot continue to assume that everyone understands the benefits of insurance.

“Insurance is fruitful business and its roles cannot be overemphasised. It helps to promote trade and commerce. The time to be proactive is now and one of the gains of leadership is being proactive. Leaders are several steps ahead. I challenge everyone to lead with vision and purpose.”

In her remark, President of NCRIB, Dr. (Mrs) Bola Onigbogi, lamented that the profession has not received the expected respect it deserved despite the roles the council plays in the nation’s economy.

She commended the Lagos Area Committee of NCRIB for its contributing to the development of the profession, adding that the branch is trusted in delivering value and giving the national body huge support.

Niger Delta Today Columnist and Managing Director of Titan Insurance Brokers Limited, Mr. Francis Ewherido, receiving a plaque in recognition of his contribution to the success of the last NCRIB(LAC) Executive. Presenting the plaque is Mrs. Funke Adenusi, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Lagos Area Committee – NCRIB (LAC).

Onigbogi noted that, “Insurance brokers play a huge role in the insurance value chain”, disclosing that the efforts to change the narrative have continued to yield positive results.

Meanwhile, the outgoing chairman of Lagos Area Committee, NCRIB, Mrs. Bukola Ifemade, commended members of the chapter for the support accorded her, saying that the body made tremendous growth under her leadership.

Ifemade said under her leadership the body conducted mentorship series, annual lectures and awards as well as contributed in conducting programmes to empower members of NCRIB-LAC for optimal performance and service delivery.

The event tagged “Towards Full Digitalization and Automation of Insurance Broking’ had Mr. Akin Banuso, Country Manager of the world leading and tech-giant, Microsoft Nigeria as a Guest Speaker. 

Banuso, represented by Mr. Wale Adeyemi of Wragby Business Solutions Ltd, in his virtual presentation advised Brokers to embrace technology to enhance their operations and insurance penetration in Nigeria.

He introduced the iBroka and shed more light on the All-in-One Solutions that can be accessed from a single platform based on Brokers’ subscription level. 

The Application, according to Mr. Adeyemi, is to assist Insurance Brokers deliver efficient and quality service at optimal cost to their customers.
