The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, says the use of fireworks remained banned even during the yuletide celebrations, warning that violators would be arrested and prosecuted by the command.
Inuwa, in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across to arrest sellers of the fireworks including ‘knock-out’ and ‘banger’.
The statement advised parents to warn their children and wards to desist from the use of the products, stressing that the law will take its course for anyone arrested by the command.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, mni has announced that the ban on the use of fireworks is still in force and that the Command will enforce all the extant laws prohibiting the use of fireworks such as “knock out”, “banger” etc.
“Parents / guardians are therefore advised to warn their children/wards to desist from the use of fireworks. Retailers of such goods are equally warned to withdraw from the sales of these products as anyone arrested will be prosecuted.

“All Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been directed to arrest and prosecute any person involved in the sales or use of fireworks in any part of the State”, the statement added.
The Delta police chief assured residents of the state that the command would ensure safety of everyone during and after the yuletide celebrations.
He, however, called for the continued support and provision of useful information to the Police and other security agencies in their untiring efforts at providing a peaceful and secure environment for the people particularly during the yuletide.
