The Delta State chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has held a black Sunday service to honour and mourn Nigerian youths who were reportedly murdered during the peaceful #EndSARS protests across the country.

Thousands of Christians attended the interdenominational church service held at the Flock of Christ Mission in Enerhen in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state near Warri.

The National Vice President (South-South) of PFN , Bishop Simeon Okah, commended Nigerian youths for speaking out irrespective of their religious and ethnic belonging against police brutality and bad governance in the country.

He said a new Nigeria would soon be born with the new consciousness among the youths that there should paradigm shift in the way the nation is being governed.

Bishop Okah noted that the nation-wide protest was an answer to the prayers of the church for an end to corruption and bad leadership in the country.

The PFN leader, while paying glowing tribute to slain protesters, posited that the youths who paid the supreme price in the fight for a better Nigeria would not be forgotten for the sacrifice they had made for the good of all Nigerians.

Okah, who however, condemned the hijacking of the protest which later resulted in vandalism and lo0ting of public and private property, cautioned youths being reportedly used to derail the peaceful agitation for the betterment of the country.

He urged other youths to be bold and continue the advocacy for freedom using all legitimate and peaceful platforms until government at all level assuage the plights of Nigerians who merely yearning for a good governance.

In his homily, Delta PFN Chairman, Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi, in a message titled ” Why God allows protests “, noted that the Church is in full support of the peaceful protest by Nigerian youths.

He told the black-wearing Christians that even God recognises protests as a way of expressing grievances against constituted authorities.

While, recalling the protest led by Moses and Aaron against the oppression of the Israelites by the government of Pharaoh in the book of Exodus, Enakirerhi noted that it was that God directed protest that eventually led to the freedom of Israel.

“It was sad that government security agencies shot and killed unarmed youths who were only protesting the oppression by the police and other bad policies of the state”, he lamented.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to listen and address the requests of the peaceful protesting youths, adding that it was one of the ways to avenge blood of the victims who were killed by agents of the state.

Bishop Enakirerhi called on Christians to continue to resist bad governance and fight corruption, urging that the 1999 constitution must be reviewed to give all sections of the country equity and justice.

He further called on all aged politicians who have ruled the country since independence to give way for young Nigerians to take over the leadership of the nation.

The Service featured prayers for peace and good governance as well as for the repose of souls lost during #ENDSARS protests.
