Ebonyi State Government has commenced distribution of the long expected COVID-19 palliatives to vulnerable households in 171 political wards in the State.
The exercises started with ten local governments out of the thirteenth local government areas of the State.
Two hundred persons from each polling unit were captured to benefit from the palliatives.
Ohaozara, the Governor’s local government, Ikwo the Hometown of the Deputy Governor and Izzi local government area of the Speaker of the State Assembly are to receive their own palliatives on later date.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries at Community primary school Amazu Ezza South Mr. Usulor Lewls, told journalists that he was given 5kg bag of rice, cubes of Maggi, noodles , sugar , 1 liter of groundnut oil and one sachet of tomatoes.
He thanked the Government for sharing the long expected palliatives to them as it would help him to sustain his family for some days.
The State Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe and his team while monitoring the distribution in Ebonyi Central zone of the state, directed that the distribution in Ishielu and Ezza north should stop and continue on Sunday for security purposes as some of the beneficiaries were living in the remote parts of the State.
According to him, the State Governor has ordered that further sharing of the palliatives to individuals should be postponed till the following day.
The postponement was due to late distribution from local government area to the various wards.
He said, “as we were monitoring sharing of the palliatives, we observed that it has not being distributed to many wards and polling units.
“The governor, therefore, ordered that sharing of the palliatives be suspended till tomorrow 1.00pm.
“It is getting late and there is no light in all the polling units. We gathered that some persons are planning to attack the sharing, so for the safety of the stakeholders and all of you it will not be shared today.
It can be distributed to the wards today against tomorrow”.
Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary To The State Government, in a remark, expressed satisfaction with the distribution though noted that it is not palliatives until the indigent persons receive their share.
