Ebonyi Confirms Two More COVID-19 Cases, Umahi Directs Contact Tracing

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State Saturday night announced that the State has recorded additional two cases of Coronavirus, bringing to five the number of confirmed cases in the state.

The governor said State health officials had commenced contact tracing of the Uburu Ohauzara patient from Sunday May 3rd, 2020.

The Governor urged people of the State to be vigilant as the Government is working hard to avoid further spread of the virus, adding that fear could bring ones immune system down.

The 4th case is a 22year old boy from Ebonyi Local Government Area who returned from Ojo , Lagos State through Nkalagu border while the 5th case  from Ogwu village in Umuobuna ward, Uburu , Ohauzara local government area had returned from Enugu State with her family.

According to him, “ 4th case is a 22 year old boy he lives in Ojo in Lagos State just like the third case, he left Lagos on 26th of April 2020 and entered Ebonyi State through Nkalagu boarder and from there he entered bus to Ezzamgbo junction.

“There after he entered cab from Ezzamgbo junction to Effium where he entered okada to Ede Ishieke, in Ebonyi Local Government where he was caught by security who intercepted him and brought him to the stadium on 27 of April, by the directive of the Government.

“A  sample was collected from him and this evening (Saturday) he tested positive. He has been removed from the isolation center, at the stadium and he’s taken to the treatment center at unity square.

“The 5th case is a girl, 24 old girl, a hair dresser from Ogwu in Uburu in Umuobuna ward, in Ohauzara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State she resides at No 30 queen close Okpara avenue , Enugu State.

“She returned to Ebonyi with her family members on 27th April, 2020 to Ogwu Uburu, she was picked from Uburu to Stadium while in the stadium she had a contact with the 3th case and this evening her result came out and it tested positive.

“The family members that she came back with from Enugu were also picked from Uburu and they all tested negative however they are still retained at the isolation center for the next 14days

“Now tomorrow, (today Sunday) I have directed the medical team to go for contact tracing of this 5th case at Uburu in Ohauzara Local Government Area.”

“I want to insist that the only way to fight this virus is to man the boarder I feel so said when a case escape from one local government and got to the other Local Government, we are keeping note of this and we are not happy.

“I plead that those who play with this Covid-19 should understand that our lives are involved, the manner this virus spreads nobody can say. The only thing is to observe the policies that NCDC and WHO gave to us.” He said.
