An Abakaliki Magistrate Court has remanded a 55-year-old man, Ogbonnaya Ugballa and nine others in prison for the attempted murder of a middle-aged man in Ndieke Ndiegu Amagu in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The suspects were arraigned by the police on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder punishable under section 516A and 302 of Criminal code Law of Ebonyi State.

After reading the charge to the accused persons, the Defence Counsel, Mr Nteshi Ogbee in his plea asked the court to strike out the case for lack of jurisdiction and grant them bail for diligent prosecution.

However, Police Prosecutor, Mr Bassy Okon urged the court not to grant bail to the accused persons as they committed capital offence punishable by life imprisonment.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Blessing Chukwu ordered that the suspects be remanded “under section eight of practice direction” pending when their case file would be reassigned to enable them to take their plea.

Our correspondent reports that the accused persons on the eleventh of August 2019 allegedly attacked one Nwenyim Oroke with machete at Ndieke Ndiagu Amagu in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

The victim, a phone accessories dealer, however, is said to have gone for exile in Onitsha Anambra State where he is pushing barrow to earn a living.
