23-Year-Old NDU Student Murdered By Jealous Soldier Boyfriend In Bayelsa

A 200-level student of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma, Bayelsa State, has been found dead in her apartment in the university community.

The lifeless body of the deceased, Jennifer Ugadu, was said to have been discovered with bullet wounds.

The 23-year-old undergraduate is being alleged to have been murdered by her jealous soldier boyfriend.

The accused, James Matol, killed the student over suspicion of cheating as well as using charms on the soldier.

It was gathered that the late NDU’s Faculty of Education student also had her fingers cut-off by her killers.

Security personnel attached to the institution disclosed that the corpse of the undergraduate was discovered on Tuesday in her room.

It was gathered that there were signs of struggling as her thumb was almost cut-off.

Her soldier boyfriend was said to have posted some grievous comments on the WhatsApp page of the 200-level student after killing the NDU student.

The accused claimed he murdered her due to cheating and emotional frustration.

The suspected soldier also claimed that he had informed Jennifer’s mother and his own aunt of his action and that two of her friends identified as Vera and Eniye, were not giving the deceased good advice.

He was also said to have accused the girl of wasting five years of his life on the relationship and threatened to commit suicide in hiding.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, has ordered investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the student.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the killing of the 23-year-old undergraduate in a statement on Tuesday.

“Police have recovered the decomposing corpse of one Jennifer Ugadu ‘f’ 23 years, a two hundred level student of the faculty of Education at the Niger Delta University Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area Bayelsa State.

“The deceased body was discovered on 13th of July 2021, after one of her friends stumbled on a chat, where the deceased boyfriend admitted to killing her and threatened to commit suicide.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was shot in her apartment by her boyfriend, one James Matol, who is allegedly a member of the Nigerian Army.

” Investigations also reveal that the deceased was last seen with the boyfriend on 11th of July 2021”, the statement read.
