A forum of governorship candidates who participated in the 2019 election in Delta State has commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over the appointment of its chairman, Dr. Clarke Mejebi as member of the State Hospital Management Board.
The forum under aegis of Delta Governorship Candidates Forum (DGCF) described Mejebi’s appointment by Okowa as a testament of a genuine leader who had make good his promise of embracing opposition parties in line with international best practices.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by the forum’s Vice Chairman, Comrade Lucky Dikadi; Secretary, Mr. Nelly Anyirah and Assistant Secretary, Engr. Lucky Oyovwi, observed that the gesture by Governor Okowa has demonstrated him as a man who keep promises.
The group said Mejebi’s appointment is in line with the governor’s promise after the governorship election to embrace opposition political parties’ governorship candidates in his cabinet in his administration’s determination to meet the yearnings of Deltans.
The statement said, “Such progressive approach is in line with global best practices associated with world leaders, and Governor Okowa has once again proven that he is a great leader because it’s only quality leaders with great minds that can appoint political opponents into their administration.
“Again, the appointment of Dr. Clarke into the Hospital Management Board was also that of ‘a square peg in a square hole’, which further shows Governor Okowa’s prudential brilliance and diligence in the administration of state affairs.
“The DGCF therefore thank our admirable governor, His Excellency Senator Okowa for embracing collaboration, inclusiveness and participatory approach as he promised during his second term victory speech.”
While commending the governor for his development strides especially the construction of the aged-long Direct Labour Agency (DLA) road in Asaba, it urged the governor to extend the appointment to other members of the forum in line with his earlier promise.
The statement expressed the forum’s readiness to continue to support the Okowa’s administration for the benefit of all Deltans.
“The Forum’s Vice Chairman further said Governor Okowa is worth emulating as the ‘EKWEME’ because he promised to accommodate opposition political parties’ governorship candidate into his cabinet when the Forum visited him after the elections, and he has started doing so. Governor Okowa is a pace setter because he has done what no seating governor has ever done in the state.
“While the DGCF look forward to more appointments of governorship candidates, the Forum wishes to reiterate once again her unwavering support for His Excellency Governor Okowa led administration towards the achievement of the desired stronger and better Delta state.
“The Forum also use this medium to thank His Excellency Governor Okowa for listening to the yearnings of the people by constructing the DLA road that has long been abandoned”, the statement further added.
